The Kalki have often been erroneously termed "Kulika" by Tibetan Buddhist scholars unfamiliar with the original Sanskrit texts, as Buddhist scholar John R. Newman explains:....".. . so far no one seems to have examined the Sanskrit Kalachakra texts. The Buddhist myth of the Kalkis of Shambhala derives from the Hindu Kalki of Shambhala myths contained in the Mahabharata and the Puranas. The Vimalaprabha even refers to the Kalkipuranam, probably the latest of the upapuranas. This relationship has been obscured by western scholars who have reconstructed the Tibetan translation term rigs ldan as "Kulika." Although Tibetan rigs ldan is used to translate the Sankrit kulika in other contexts, here it always represents Sanskrit kalkin (possessive of kalkah; I have used the nomininative kalki".....Newman, John L. Great Eastern Sun......"Manjushrí Kírti (Tib. Rigdan Jampel Dakpa) is said to have been born in 159 BCE and ruled over Shambhala which had 300,510 followers of the Mlechha (Yavana or "western") religion living in it, some of whom worshiped the sun."......."a confrontation between two religious schools. The Rishis worshipped only the sun. For this reason they also called their guru the “sun chariot” (suryaratha)."

Dharma Fellowship of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Urgyen Trinley Dorje......"In 672 an Arab governor of Sistan, Abbad ibn Ziyad, raided the frontier of Al-Hind and crossed the desert to Gandhara, but quickly retreated again. The marauder Obaidallah crossed the Sita River and made a raid on Kabul in 698 only to meet with defeat and humiliation. Vincent Smith, in Early History of India, states that the Turkishahiya dynasty continued to rule over Kabul and Gandhara up until the advent of the Saffarids in the ninth century. Forced by the inevitable advance of Islam on the west, they then moved their capital from Kapisa to Wahund on the Indus, whence they contin­ued as the Hindushahiya dynasty. This was in 870 A.D. and marks the first time that the KINGDOM OF SHAMBHALA actually came under Moslem domination. The Enlightened Ones did not view any aspect of either the environment or the inhabitants of our world system as ultimately real. Therefore, the teachings are not one that, based on a belief in a single view, sets forth a particular system as the only valid one. "Trungpa Rinpoche’s Great Vision.....Many will remember Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s determination to gather the sacred relationships, wisdom, and living essences of the world’s authentic traditions, and to give them a home under the Shambhala banner. He had a vision of making living relationships with the sacred deities and traditions of this world, and inviting them to support us in creating an enlightened society. Before he came to the West, he had profound meetings with the Trappist monk Thomas Merton, which resulted in the Christian-Buddhist (-Jewish) dialogs held at Naropa University. In his 1983 trip to Japan, he invited Amaterasu Omikami – the indigenous Japanese goddess of the Sun – to come live at the Kami Shrine at SMC. At the 1979 Kalapa Assembly, he was asked if there still might be Chinese dralas present, to which he replied, “There are lots of them, all of the emperors and all of the deities of Mount Wu Tai Shan. There are lots of them, absolutely lots of them…. I think they will be the first to agree with us, the first to come along and join us.” In 2007, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche made a pilgrimage to Wutai Shan, which is also seen as the abode of Manjushri. Trungpa Rinpoche also talked of his dream of going to Mount Sinai to ask the great Western deity Jehovah for his support in our efforts to create an enlightened society on this earth. And he once gave a talk to a gathering of a western secret society, where he talked to them about basic goodness and the importance of maintaining their traditions.
