TRUTH OF A HOPI....Stories Relating to the Origin, Myths and Clan Histories of the Hopi.....by Edmund Nequatewa....1936...http://www.sacred-texts.com/nam/hopi/toah/
The Pantheon of the Hopi might be roughly classed as follows:
Sotukeu-nangwi, the Supreme Being, or Heavenly God, who is served by all other gods.
Powerful deified heavenly bodies, such as the Sun, Tawa, etc.
Mui-aingwa, the Great Germ God of the Underworld, creator of life; and his servitors.
Masauwu, the Giant God of the Upper World, God of Fire and guardian of Death.
The Kachinas, or spirits of the ancestors and of the animals and plants.
The Ancient Monsters and the familiar household gods.
Sotukeunangwi, the Heavenly God. He is all-powerful and it seems that he stands above all others. Even Muiaingwa, the Germ God, cannot succeed without his help.
The Sun God is Tawa He carries out the commands of Sotukeu-nangwi the Heavenly God. Mui-aingwa, the Germ God (giver of life) is controlled by the Heavenly God, but he is above Masauwu, the Earth God.
"Masauwu, God of the earth and guardian of the dead, is very terrible and very sacred. In form he is a great giant. The Hopis say he is really a very handsome man with dark complexion, but he always wears a terrible bloody mask and an old rabbit skin robe. He walks at night and carries a fiery torch. He is the controller of fire.Masauwu is the owner of all the Hopi world. He also represents death, for he controls the fate of the departed spirit in Muski, the underworld. The One Horned Priests serve Masauwu, as well as Muiaingwa, the Germ God, and they mete out punishment or reward, according to the life which the spirit has led in the upper world.".....http://www.sacred-texts.com/nam/hopi/toah/toah24.htm

SOTUNG NANGU....aka: Sotuk Nangu, Coto-kin-unwu, Sotuqnangu.....the Hopi "Heart of the Sky" God
Major Hopi deity, not just Kachina.....Historically a forbidden figure for non-Hopi to see......Last seen at the dances in the 1920's.....Masked and un-masked version of Kachina.....
In one legend associated with Sotuknang,
the Hopi sky god...... A devastating flood had destroyed
Palatkwapi=97"the red city to the south," possibly located in the
red rock country near Sedona, Arizona. Shortly afterwards a boy
named Tiwahongva and his sister Tawiayisnima, who were forgotten
in the chaos and left behind by their fleeing parents, set out
on a journey to find them.
In the evening they decided to make camp. They were just opening
their bundle for dinner when they heard a great roar overhead.
The children were very frightened, wondering what this strange
thing could be. The brother held his sister tightly to his
breast as a fantastic being descended from the heavens. He was
"WEARING A COSTUME THAT GLITTERED LIKE ICE WHILE HIS HEAD AND FACE SHONE LIKE A STAR". He spoke: "Do not be afraid. My
name is Sotuknang. Because of my sympathy for your plight, I
have come to help you. Get on my paatuwvota and let us be on our
way."
"The petroglyph in Arizona depicts the emergence of the people at (C), in this, the 4th creation. According to Hopi legend, when the people emerged from the underworld at Sipapuni (in what is now Arizona), they were met by Massau’u, the Great Spirit, the Caretaker of the land. He is the figure shown at (A) holding the “journey line.” Near His hand is a circle (D), representing the continuous Path of Life, the physical world and creation.".....http://rossbishop.com/blog/2012/12/15/the-hopi-prophesies/
"Venus was symbolized through different forms of crosses. In one example the double cross is attached to the middle line of three orbit lines. (Patterson 1992: 76) (Fig. 35) These three lines reappear on the lightning flash the Hopi-deity Sotuqnangu, the God of the Sky, is holding. As this Hopi-sky god wears a white masc with a horn of and on, or a hat shaped like a star".....http://atlantisforschung.de/index.php?title=The_birth_of_Venus_out_of_Orion_(VI)
"Tibetan Bonpos....Another set of deities are the White Old Man, a sky god, and his consort. They are known by a few different names, such as the Gyalpo Pehar called "King Pehar" (Wylie: pe har rgyal po). Pehar is featured as a protecting deity of Zhangzhung, the center of the Bon religion. Reportedly, Pehar is related to celestial heavens and the sky in general. In early Buddhist times, Pehar transmogrified into a shamanic bird to adapt to the bird motifs of shamanism. Pehar’s consort is a female deity known by one of her names as Düza Minkar (Wylie: bdud gza smin dkar, Stein1954 in Hummel 1962)."
Dyēus (also *Dyēus ph2ter) is believed to have been chief deity in the religious traditions of the prehistoric Proto-Indo-European tribes. Part of a larger pantheon, he was the god of the daylight sky, and his position may have mirrored the position of the patriarch or monarch in society. This deity is not directly attested; rather scholars have reconstructed this deity from the languages and cultures of later Indo-European nations......Dyēus Ph2tēr is the god of the day-lit sky and the chief god of the Indo-European pantheon. The name survives in Greek Zeus with a vocative form Zeu pater; Latin Jūpiter (from the archaic Latin Iovis pater; Diēspiter), Sanskrit Dyáus Pitā, and Illyrian Dei-pátrous.....
Tengri (Old Turkic: ; Modern Turkish: Tanrı; Proto-Turkic *teŋri / *taŋrɨ; Mongolian script: ᠲᠨᠭᠷᠢ, Tngri; Modern Mongolian: Тэнгэр, Tenger), is one of the names for the primary chief deity in the religion of the early Turkic (Xiongnu, Hunnic, Bulgar) and Mongolic (Xianbei) peoples. Worship of Tengri is sometimes referred to as Tengrism. The core beings in Tengrism are Sky-Father (Tengri/Tenger Etseg) and Mother Earth (Eje/Gazar Eej). It involved shamanism, animism, totemism and ancestor worship.
Much of the pre-Zoroastrian Iranian Mithra in terms of how he was worshipped by the Iranians is little known. It is known that Mithra boasted a considerable following; there are indications that he was attributed elements of a sky god - he was associated with the sun, altho not equated with it, and was termed the 'god of light' - and was often invoked with other high gods, such as Ahura, who at that time bore a prominent although non-universal position.
Khukh and Tengri literally mean "blue" and "sky" in Mongolian and modern Mongolians still pray to "Munkh Khukh Tengri" ("Eternal Blue Sky"). Therefore Mongolia is sometimes poetically referred to by Mongolians as the "Land of Eternal Blue Sky" ("Munkh Khukh Tengriin Oron" in Mongolian). In modern Turkey Tengriism is also known as the Göktanrı dini, "Sky God religion", Turkish "Gök" (sky) and "Tanrı" (God) corresponding to the Mongolian khukh (blue) and Tengri (sky), respectively.
The Hopi Sky God and the similarity to the description of the Tibetan Sky God......"In one legend the flying shield is associated with Sotuknang, the Hopi sky god. A devastating flood had destroyed Palatkwapi—“the red city to the south,” possibly located in the red rock country near Sedona, Arizona. Shortly afterwards a boy named Tiwahongva and his sister Tawiayisnima, who were forgotten in the chaos and left behind by their fleeing parents, set out on a journey to find them. In the evening they decided to make camp. They were just opening their bundle for dinner when they heard a great roar overhead. The children were very frightened, wondering what this strange thing could be. The brother held his sister tightly to his breast as a fantastic being descended from the heavens. He was wearing a costume that glittered like ice (silver?) while his head and face shone like a star. He spoke: “Do not be afraid. My name is Sotuknang. Because of my sympathy for your plight, I have come to help you. Get on my paatuwvota and let us be on our way.”
He then took them on his flying shield up into the sky so that they could see for many miles around. Feeding the hungry children ripe melons, he told them that they must have faith in him and in his teachings that would later arrive through their dreams. Finally he landed a short distance from the village in which their mother and father had settled, bid the young ones farewell, and flew up again into the clouds. Forever grateful to the sky god, the brother and sister walked into the village to be reunited with their parents."
NAVAJO WINDHORSE......The story goes, that the Johano-ai' starts each day from his Hogan in the east and rides across the skies to his Hogan in the west, carrying the shining golden disk, the Sun. They say that when the skies are blue and the weather is fair, Johano-ai' is mounted on his Turquoise Horse or his White Shell Horse; but when the heavens are dark with storm, he is riding the Horse of Coal.
When a horse of the Sun God gallops, he raises not dust but glittering grains of mineral, such that are used in our ceremonies. And that when he rolls and shakes himself, it is this shining mineral that flies from him.
The White Shelled Horse of the east is the color of purity and of the spirit. They say that Sun God rode this horse when he was courting Changing Woman, the earth goddess. The white horse occupies the east, the color of dawn or early morning light.
This research explores ancient relationships...Shiwa Okar, youthful, white deity wearing crystal armor and helmet.....Shenlha Okar, the brilliant white pure light being with body the essence of crystal "God of Gods" of the Tibetan Bon tradition.........MITHRA.., the pure white pre-Christian Europe/pre-Islam Persia, mounted Warrior Sky God whom the soldiers of ancient Roman worshipped in numerous Mithraeum of Western Europe.......and Sotunanga, the 'crystal ice faced' supreme god "Heart of the Sky" deity in the Hopi tradition...in 1974 Trungpa said that the pre-Buddhist Bonpo religion of Tibet was 'identical' with the Native American tradtions of the Southwest........
There was an effort in Japan to separate Shinto from Buddhism: "After the Meiji Imperial Restoration of 1868, the new government purged Shinto of Buddhist elements, or ordered to clearly segregate Buddhism from Shinto."
Shenlha Okar...... published practices, invocations and ceremonies in Tibetan/Shangshung Shamanism, Tantra and Dzogchen...... (Lha of Lha, God of Gods, Great God White Light...the peaceful "Shiwa'i" deity who is the "source of the teachings of the traditions of Dzogchen)...and the THE NINE DEITIES WHO CREATED THE WORLD
Shenlha Okar ("Great Lha White Light") ....is pure white...In the Bon tradition his ontological status is that of a bonku, 'unconditioned being' or 'supreme being', corresponding to the Buddhist category of dharmakaya...His association with light suggests Manichaean influences....The colour of his body is like the essence of crystal...his ornaments, attire, and palace are adorned by crystal light...".......
........."Shenlha Okar, the Bon deity who is the source of the lineage of teachings of the Dzogchen (rDzogs chen), the Great Perfection, in the lands of Lha, Nyen, and Lu". ....Kungtu Zangpo gave the teachings to Shenlha Okar who passed them to Shenrab Miwo who taught them in Zhang Zhung............From the white pure light arises the deity Shenlha Okar at the center of the mandala".........from a book by Lama Tenzin Wangyal
